When employees at the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) saw a dog tied up in the parking lot of their Sunnyslope campus, their hearts sank. While it’s unfortunately not uncommon for pets to be abandoned outside shelters, this situation was different. Along with the dog, there was a note left by his previous family.
Reading the heartfelt note, the staff’s hearts shattered.

“It is with a heavy heart that we had to resort to this, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had no choice,” the note began. “This is Armando (Mando). He is a 4-year-old Husky-Labrador mix. He’s had his shots but may need them soon. He’s very friendly with both dogs and people, though he is prone to ear infections. We pray he finds a good home. God bless.”
The note showed just how much Armando’s family cared for him. Although leaving him in the parking lot wasn’t ideal, it was clear that they had loved him deeply, but life circumstances had forced their hand.
“Along with the heartfelt note, it was evident that this sweet dog had been well cared for, as he appeared to be in great condition when found,” said Kelsey Dickerson, the public information officer at AHS. “Armando had clearly been a cherished part of his family.”

Armando was just as confused and heartbroken as his family. Uncertain of what was happening, he was shy and a bit overwhelmed at first. The AHS staff worked hard to help him feel safe and loved again.
“Though Armando was initially shy and a little confused, with some time, patience, and a few hot dogs, he quickly warmed up,” Dickerson recalled. “As mentioned in the note, Armando is an incredibly sweet dog who loves attention and enjoys playing with other dogs.”
The shelter environment was a big change for Armando after the warmth of his previous home, but it didn’t take long for him to adjust. On Christmas Eve, Armando found his forever family. He’s been thriving ever since.

“He’s been playing non-stop with his new dog sister,” Dickerson shared. “She even shares ‘her couch’ with him when they’re not playing tug-of-war in the backyard. His new family says it feels like he’s been with them forever.”
Though Armando’s former family didn’t want to say goodbye, they can take comfort knowing he is loved and happy in his new home.
